ATTENDANCE:  26 out of 57.
GUESTS:  Mary Bak, Assistant Director of our District.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Patti Van Cleave gave a thought about the importance and meaning of Rotary meetings.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Patti and Keith Reed presented their thoughts on getting “scribes” to prepare meeting minutes. Some questioned the importance of the minutes. David Grant reported that the minutes go to 240 individuals (including active members) and that about 30-40% of the emails are opened by the recipients. The consensus of the group was to make them more brief and easier to prepare and to continue our quest to get 3-4 members to share this task. Heather Higgins volunteered after the meeting to prepare the report for the August 4th meeting.
It was announced that the Rotary Directory for District 6440 is now available and some copies were distributed at the meeting.
Birthdays celebrated were Peter Skalski and Luvie Owens.  Although they requested no singing, Robert Mardirossian said he would donate $10 in Happy Bucks if the group sang—the Happy Birthday song was quickly sung and with gusto!
HAPPY BUCKS:  Fred Schwimmer donated $55, one dollar for each happy year of his marriage to Ellie; Rebecca Wolf donated due to the libraries withstanding the recent heavy rains; Tony Kambich donated for the marketing creativity of  one of our dentist members who has a red convertible with the license plate “Dr. Crowns”; and Heather Higgins was thankful that 5 of her family members were safe after being  in a serious car accident.
GUEST SPEAKER: Rich Lalley introduced the guest speaker and explained the Club’s role several years ago in helping establish a prosthetics clinic in Bolivia.  Grace Deetjen is a recent graduate of University of Illinois majoring in bioengineering. Recently,  she volunteered as a workshop assistant at the Bolivian Prosthetics Foundation facility in Bolivia. She presented a very detailed and informative power point showing the history and the current operation of the clinic, along with her work experience there and the possible future of this very important facility. Copies of her power point will be emailed to Club members when it arrives from Grace.
