President Bill called the meeting to order at 12:15. Bob Baker filled in with a Thought of the Day; Fred Schwimmer led us in the Pledge.
After lunch, Brooke introduced our guest, potential member Crystal LeRoy, Superintendent of the Kenilworth School District.
Terry Dason’s birthday is Saturday, September 15th. Wish her a happy birthday when you see her at the Farmer’s Market!
Fred Schwimmer and Heidi Sibert both celebrated their 6th anniversary of membership in the club.
Announcements:
-More scribes are needed. Contact Bill, Patti, Keith or John Thomas to volunteer.
-We will be setting up and working at the Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Volunteers still needed, contact Bill. If you’re shopping, be sure to stop by. Volunteers should wear Rotary garb.
-Winnetka Park District Fall Fest is on September 29th. We will have a table there and need volunteers, signup is forthcoming.
-The Chamber golf outing is this coming Monday. You can still sign up to play golf, or sign up to come for dinner.
-Joe shared that the October 5 Operation Warm fundraiser now has 23 sponsors! The committee is looking for assistance with check in, using a credit card swiper. Shifts are one hour. Talk to Joe to volunteer. Joe asked for a show of hands as to who is planning to attend. Buy your tickets now – only $40.
- Ned announced that the board had just approved the formation of an International Committee of our club. He will head the committee and has several members joining him. They will be meeting after lunch today.

Membership
Patti provided information on current members (55) as well as activities of the Membership Committee in the past year. Members come to us because they are ASKED – which is a responsibility of each of ours as members. Look ahead in the calendar, choose one of our terrific programs, and reach out.
Foundation
Bob Baker reported for Brooke on the activities of the foundation, specifically that the foundation has recently made changes to the Community Grants program. Because funds are not as plentiful this year, the foundation will now fund 1-3 organizations with larger grants, allowing for more impact. The foundation will only accept organizational that are in Metro Chicago. Projects cannot be capital projects and funds must go to a program of the organization (no general operating). The focus for this year will be on organizations with programs in the area of Children’s Education and Health, including Mental Health.
Rich provided an overview of the activities of the foundation and revenue and expense categories. Because the foundation is our 501©3 charitable arm, all projects run through the foundation. Last year the foundation had $75K in revenue. Expenses for programs were $60 and are as follows:

$5,000 NEIU Gotaas scholarship
$1,000 RYLA scholarships
Club revenue comes from dues. Expenses are the cost of running the club, primarily room rental, catering and some administrative costs.
Kids Against Hunger
Heidi reported that our ninth Kids Against Hunger event will be on March 16, 2019. She is looking for a couple more committee members to make this happen. Contact her for more information.
Community Service
Barb reported that we are undertaking a new service learning initiative with Sunset Ridge School. More info to come after she meets with the principal. We have the opportunity to volunteer to assist with collecting donated items on Make A Difference Day, October 27th from 9:00-noon. Last year they collected 24,000 items at this event. We may be collecting medical equipment – this is being investigated. On November 15th we will once again pack food bags for Good News Partners. This will happen during our lunch meeting.
Tony won the raffle, but did not pull the winning card.
President Bill adjourned the meeting by asking all to recite the 4-way test. The meeting was adjourned at 1:30.
